Our operational direction is one way, up.
>> The Welsh family have been farming and producing cattle in the Taroom district for over 30 years.
Originally a wholely commercial operation, Huntington's stock bloodlines were continually improved over the years until it became, essentially, a high-grade Brahman herd.
>> The Charolais connection.
After being early to realise the benefits that the Charolais breed had to offer their herd, top grade sires were introduced and Huntington Charolais and Charbray Stud was established.
The Welsh family then set about, over time and using their experience in the beef cattle breeding industry, to produce 'The Huntington Kind'...reproductively sound cattle, emphasising easier finishing and extra growth.
Today, the Charolais, Charbray and Brahman breeds are combined with precision to breed cattle loaded with traits required for the larger commercial beef operators. This is a section of the industry, with its own particular stresses and demands, that Welsh Cattle Co closely identifies with.
>> A commitment to commercial success.
Although seedstock development is progressively becoming the major thrust in the company's evolution, Welsh Cattle Co still and will always maintain a vital and material interest in the day to day challenge of commercial beef production. Main markets targetted by WCC's commercial operations include feeder steers and heifers, which are generally sold to repeat clients, predominantly grass fatteners, and a percentage of heifers which are also marketed as replacement breeders.
The Welsh family are well credentialled to work with clients on the best bloodstock and genetic solutions for any particular need.
>> We love our cattle country.
Welsh Cattle Co predominantly runs breeders on their two breeding properties north of Taroom Queensland, Huntington and Renlew, where the country is a mix of undulating iron bark/box wilga country with alluvial creek flats running back into forest type tops.
Another property Carrabah, south of Taroom is used for breeding as well as growing out heifers and feeder steers. Carrabah is mainly heavier brigalow type country with a percentage of creek flats.
Parklands, which is brigalow, softwood scrub country, acts as a Bull Depot for the growing and finishing of bulls after weaning.
The Welsh family also utilises the use of leased country to supplement their cattle production as well as farming for silage and hay.
>> Visitors are always welcome.
The Welsh Cattle Co office is situated at The Five Mile, a smaller property close to the highway, just north of Taroom, which makes it very accessible for displaying cattle and having visitors drop in. So if you are ever in the area please do so.
